Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Mary Ann Spanjers shares on a special summer retreat in Tucson, Arizona.

As Sister Carla and I found that the week of June 7-12 would be a good week for our retreat, the Holy Spirit inspired us to ask the Franciscan Friars at San Xavier Mission to be our directors. They signed up for a day to share about Franciscan life, prayer, our vows and looking at where we resist God’s grace. Each day after Morning Prayer and Mass one of Friars. Fr. Max. Fr. Bill, Fr. Eddy Br. Bob and Fr. Paul SDS directed our retreat day of  prayer with one of the mentioned themes.

We managed to find some beautiful places to pray; we spent a day on Mount Lemon praying at Rosa Canyon Lake and at the Byzantine Catholic Chapel, “Mary Undoer of Knots”; another day was at Madera Canyon.

Each day was filled with God’s love and grace, times of silence and sharing during meals. The retreat concluded on Saturday when we renewed our vows during Mass. We are so grateful to our Franciscan Brothers for being God’s instruments for us.
