Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity continue to celebrate St. Francis of Assisi all month long. We Sisters at San Xavier Mission invited the three friars to join us for a pre-St. Francis Day feast on October 2nd. All enjoyed our first time all together for a meal. It was an enjoyable time getting to know each other.

The Transitus along with Evening Praise was held in the Church on the 3rd. The friars from Elfrida joined us along with a church full of visitors. Sister Marlita did one of the readings during the service and afterwards a young boy complimented her on her good reading. That was precious!

San Xavier Mission was able to celebrate St. Francis Feastday almost as in pre-covid times. The Feast was planned for the midmorning Mass and evening procession with the Yaqui Dancers and fireworks here at the Mission. You couldn’t count the number of people on the Church grounds for the procession. The Feast Committee served take out dinners at the Feast house and had band music in the afternoon.

Many pilgrims visited St. Francis here at the Mission starting October 1st through the 4th. Every day there were lines of people moving in and out of Church. Many O’odham made the walk to Magdalena to celebrate St. Francis Day there.
