These past two weeks we Desert Sisters in Bapchule, Arizona on the Gila River Reservation have experienced three monsoons. Monsoon Season in the Desert is July through September. Monsoons usually start with wind and dust. This is followed by heavy rain. There can be lightning as well. The blowing dust is not so fun, but the torrential rain that comes down after the dust unleashes the power of Mother Nature and God’s Grandeur. It reminds me of a snowstorm in the Midwest or Northeast of the United States. You just can’t help but look out the window and watch. The Desert is always so in need of rain and such a special occasion I can’t help but think of Psalm 63 that says, “My body pines for you like a dry weary land without water.” (submitted by Sister Hannah Johnecheck)
