Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Mary Beth Kornely entered an afghan, almond cookies, and a lion blanket into the Yuma County Fair which is held at the end of March each year—August is too hot to have a fair in Yuma.

She won the Sweepstakes Award Purple Rosette on the afghan, the Grand Champion Purple Rosette Ribbon on the almond cookies and a blue on a Child’s Lion Blanket.

The almond cookies are the recipe the Sisters in Yuma used to make over 2000 cookies for the 150th Anniversary year of our Community 2019 for the parish festivals in town in honor of Saint Francis who loved almond cookies. The lion blanket is already sold for $200 with the proceeds going to Saint Francis school and the afghan is going to the school’s auction at the end of April.
