Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Hannah Johnecheck reflects on the Feast of All Souls from St. Peter Mission Convent, Bapchule, Arizona.

Honoring their deceased loved ones is very important to the Pima Indians of the Gila River Reservation. This makes the Feast of All Souls (November 2) a very special and holy day for them.  Each year, we Franciscan Sisters gather at the cemetery with the parishioners of Saint Peters and pray the rosary. This year we were blessed with a beautiful sunset as we prayed. Sitting in prayer in this desert cemetery was stark, simple, and beautiful all at one time. “From the rising of the sun to its setting, may the name of the Lord be praised” (Psalm 113).
