For our 150th Anniversary of Founding as a congregation, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity gathered together in Tucson to celebrate. Our Arizona Sisters traveled from Bapchule, Casa Grande, Sierra Vista and Yuma.

Bishop Edward Wisenberger presided over a Friday afternoon Mass with more than 20 of our Franciscan Sisters of Charity. This prayer was used as part of the liturgy.

BLESSING OF THE CANDLES CARRYING ON THE LEGACY OF THE FOUNDRESSES
Prayer for Perseverance by St. Francis of Assisi
Omnipotent, Eternal, just and merciful God, grant to us that doing for Your sake, what we know You want, and always wanting, what pleases You, as ones interiorly cleansed, interiorly enlightened and inflamed with the fire of the Holy Spirit, we might follow the footsteps of Your Beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

May we continue the legacy of 150 years begun by Mother Gabriel Gramlich, Mother Odela Wahl, Sister Seraphica Fessler, and Sister Coletta Thoening who followed so well in Jesus’ footprints through the inspiration of St. Francis. May these candles represent our charism of Joyful Acceptance of Poverty, Love for the Church, Selfless Dedication to the Service of Others, and Simplicity. May we carry the light of our Foundresses and all our Sisters who have shown us the way to live our consecrated life.

May they guide us to attain to You, Most High, by Your grace alone, who in perfect Trinity and simple Unity lives and reigns and is glorified as the Omnipotent God, for all the ages. Amen.
BLESSING OF THE CANDLES by the Bishop:
Sister Local Directors “receive the Light of Christ”.

After Mass, dinner followed in a near by Mexican Restaurant. A beautiful cake and corsages added a festive nature to the celebration.
