On the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity serving at Yuma, Sierra Vista and Tucson gathered with Bishop Edward Weisenburger of the Diocese of Tucson to celebrate Consecrated Life.
Eleven Jubilarians were among the Religious Brothers and Sisters across the diocese of various Communities, two of whom were marking hallmark jubilees – silver (25 years) and golden (50 years). The Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m., at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 1946 E. Lee St., Tucson.
Bishop Wisenburger acknowledged that this Mass is important, because it recognizes the accomplishments of the many vowed religious that serve the diocese. The people of God rely heavily on the assistance and ministry of our religious here in the Diocese and he himself is very grateful for their work. Among the Franciscans recognized were:
- 40 years: Franciscan Brother David Paz;
- 50 years: Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sister Mary Beth Kornely;
- 55 years: Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sister Leonette Kochan;
- 65 years: Capuchin Father John Francis Samsa.
There are 135 religious women from 33 congregations or orders serving in the Diocese of Tucson, as well as 61 priests and 31 brothers from 16 different religious congregations.
